Junagarh is a small town having population of 19656 as per 2011 Census and its total area is 15.54 Sq. Km.
The N.A.C. was constituted during 1970 in pursuance of Govt. Notification No.24053/UD dtd.31.12.1969.The town has been divided in to 12 wards keeping in view of the compactness of the area of the wards and Geographical condition. Junagarh Town is a 26 K.Ms. distance away from District Head Quarter of Kalahandi District.
The main occupation of the people is Agriculture.
Upper Indravati Project is the life line of the people of Kalahandi whose Right main canal is flowing and also Bhatra Dam to the Junagarh town.
Junagarh town is a important business centre. The Goddess MAA Lankeswari is the presiding Deity of Junagarh. The Khandabasa festival is the main festival of Goddess Maa Lankeswari. Thousands of people of Junagarh and nearby areas are gathering here to witness the festival of the Deity.
